Claudia Schiffer has walked for the biggest names in fashion history: she’s worked the runway for Karl Lagerfeld, Yves Saint Laurent and Gianni Versace and was one of the tight-knit circle of 90s supermodels. To celebrate Vogue Paris’ September issue Legends of Fashion, we sat down with the model to talk teenage style, secret talents and motivational mantras.

How would you describe your style as a teenager?

80’s! Stone wash high waisted jeans from Chipie, oversized sweatshirts from Fiorucci, blue eye shadow and lots of hairspray.

Do you have a secret talent?

I put the passion into a passion fruit Martini.

Do you have a lucky charm?

Yes, my silver heart ring and a pair of die.

What scares you the most?

Flying without my family.

What is your favorite city and why?

London. I can drive there and see my friends, go to fabulous restaurants and take my kids to all the museums and art shows, plays etc.

Three holiday destinations you love?

I love Hotel Schloss Elmau in the Bavarian Alps in Germany; Seychelles North Island for a romantic get away with my husband; and boat trips to the Almalfi coast in Italy with my family (this is my favourite holiday of all time).

Do you have a signature fragrance?

Kingsman, it’s unique yet classic.

What do you do to stay in shape?

Pilates and Barre Tone. I also love to go for long walks with our dogs.

Do you eat gluten-free?

No, ask a baker if it’s possible to make a baguette or croissant without gluten and their face of disgust will match the taste of the non-gluten version. It’s a vital ingredient for the breads I love!

Who is your ultimate icon?

Lauren Hutton, Jane Birkin, David Bowie, Pippi Longstocking.

What has been your boldest fashion statement?

My current favorite is double denim, dangerous but nice!

What was your last impulse buy?

My current favorite is double denim, dangerous but nice!

What smell brings back childhood memories?

The few times I’m in a room with someone smoking. It’s very rare nowadays but as a kid was perfectly normal.

Who is your ideal man?

A mixture of my father, husband and son.

In which film would you like to be the leading lady?

Cinderella. I will tell the world it’s for my daughters, but who doesn’t want to be her?

A TV Show obsession?

Modern family, The Crown and 24.

A book you like to read before bed?

This summer, I read three books by Jenny Colgan, the series “Summer at Little Beach Street Bakery 1-3”. A great, easy and relaxing read for the holidays.

What is your favorite hotel?

I love the Ham Yard Hotel in London. I have gone bowling before bedtime many times.

What is your favorite food?

Large slabs of goose pâté with French toasted baguette and a glass of red wine. My favourite place to eat this is in Paris at l’Ami Louis.

What is your favorite drink?

Leoube rosé wine

What is your beauty routine?

Lips in a natural apricot colour (Cream Lipstick in Nude from Claudia Schiffer Make Up) and thick black lashes (Luxurious Volume Mascara in Jet from Claudia Schiffer Make Up) to accentuate my eyes after I’ve used my Lash Curler.

What are your fashion essentials?

Denim. I also have kept lots of things from the 90s, which are now considered vintage so I’ll often pull out an old favorite to wear with something new. Ultimately I know what suits me and instinctively when something just works and feels effortless.

What is the best restaurant for a first date?

Depends on the date. If you’re youngm somewhere with loud music so that the pressure to talk is reduced, and if you’re older, somewhere quiet so that there is pressure for good conversation.

Where is your best place for a secret getaway?

Our locked bedroom at home.

A guilty pleasure?

Toasted bread with butter and marmite, with sugary English breakfast tea.

What is your favorite spa?

The Bamford Spas, as everything is natural and organic.

What three songs are you listening to on repeat at the moment?

My husband is producing the Elton John musical film Rocketman at the moment and it’s amazing listening to all the songs again I grew up with. My favourites would probably be “Rocket Man”, “Tiny Dancer” and “Your Song”.

Is there a particular gift you like to give?

A Dyptique candle in Tubereuse. Their beautiful ribbed glass candle holders make a great present any time. I usually have one on my desk while I’m working. I also like bespoke presents like a gorgeous blanket with personal messages.

What is your mantra?

Follow your instinct.
